Abu Talib’s support for the Prophet (p.b.u.h) stems from his faith and heartfelt belief: Ayatollah Hosseini Bushehri

“Abu Talib (a.s.) supported the Prophet before and after the Be’that, and his support for the Prophet (p.b.u.h) and Islam is inseparable,” stated Ayatollah Hosseini Bushehri.

The opening ceremony of the International Conference of Hazrat Abu Talib (a.s.), the Supporter of the Prophet (p.b.u.h), started, Tuesday morning, March 9, 2021, in the Quds Hall of Imam Khomeini Complex in Qom.


“The religion of Islam pervaded the Arabian Peninsula, and the universal message of Islam was proclaimed throughout the world and to kings and emperors. Various factors have played roles in the success of the Prophet (p.b.u.h), each of which can be analyzed,” said Ayatollah Sayed Hashem Hosseini Bushehri, Chairman of the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom, appreciating the organizers of the International Conference of Hazrat Abu Talib (a.s.), the Supporter of the Prophet (p.b.u.h), especially the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly.


“The Prophet (p.b.u.h) had divine help, and God promised to help the Prophet (p.b.u.h). Also, the book of guidance of humanity and the luminous verses of the Quran had penetrated deep into the human soul. In such a way that the Mushrekin (polytheists of Mecca) came and listened to the verses of the Quran with the pleasant voice of the Prophet (p.b.u.h). Also, the morals and attitude of the Prophet (p.b.u.h) were nice. As it was said, his morality is not like that of any ruler or leader. The morals of the Prophet were such that friend and foe alike acknowledged his good character,” he said, regarding the reasons for the success of the Prophet (p.b.u.h).


“Amid the tumult of the Quraysh Kuffar (infidels) who intended to kill the Prophet (p.b.u.h) and sought to identify him and harm him from the beginning of his childhood, the Prophet (p.b.u.h) needed a supporter. The dignity and position of Hazrat Khadijeh (p.b.u.h) should be examined in its place and conferences have been held about the support of Hazrat Khadijeh (p.b.u.h). But Hazrat Abu Talib (a.s.) as a defender, supporter, affectionate, and compassionate towards the Prophet, from his childhood and from the time of the Prophethood onwards, stood by the Prophet (p.b.u.h),” stated Ayatollah Bushehri, regarding the need to support the Prophet (p.b.u.h) in the era of the Prophet.


“Abu Talib (a.s.) supported the Prophet before and after the Be’that, and his support for the Prophet (p.b.u.h) and Islam is inseparable. The Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h) is the embodiment of Islam, and if anyone supports the manifestation and embodiment of Islam, he has touched and believed in Islam with all his soul and body,” he added.


“The love and support of Abu Talib (a.s.) peaked from the moment that Hazrat Abd al-Muttalib passed away and he made a will to Abu Talib that I entrust Muhammad (p.b.u.h) to you. This is where Abu Talib’s support began. In personal support, Abu Talib (a.s.) became the guardian of the Prophet (p.b.u.h) and in family support, all of Abu Talib’s family share in supporting the Prophet (p.b.u.h). When Fatima bint al-Assad passed away, the Prophet (p.b.u.h) said, “My mother passed away” and he buried her in his clothes. Abu Talib played the role of father and Fatema bint al-Assad played the role of mother,” added the Chairman of the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom, saying that today, historical conferences should have a message for us.


“This support continued until the Prophet was 50 years old. Abu Talib (a.s.) supported the Prophet (p.b.u.h) for 42 years. Sometimes Abu Talib’s life was in danger and whenever the Prophet was in danger, Abu Talib drew his sword with all his might and stood against the Quraysh,” he added, stating that Abu Talib’s family had mobilized to support the Prophet (p.b.u.h).


“Abu Talib (a.s.) even abandoned business and commerce. Imam Ali (a.s.) said that his father, despite his poverty and empty hands, was the master of the Quraysh. Abu Talib was told by Quraysh many times to advise Muhammad (p.b.u.h) to give up their idols and they will give him whatever he wants. The Prophet said, “I swear by God if they put the sun in my right hand and the moon in my left hand to stop preaching the religion and pursuing my goal, I will never do so.” And Abu Talib responded, “Go and talk as you like. I support you and I will not surrender you and I will not leave you alone”,” he added.


“Ibn Abi al-Hadid (1190-1258 AD), one of the Sunni scholars, has said about the role of Abu Talib in supporting the Prophet (p.b.u.h) in poems that if Abu Talib and his son Ali, Islam would not have come to success. The father (Abu Talib) played a role in Mecca and his son (Imam Ali) sacrificed his life in Medina,” said Ayatollah Bushehri.


“After the demise of Abu Talib, Gabriel told the Prophet to leave Mecca because he had lost his companion. The Prophet said about Abu Talib that he was not harmed until the day Abu Talib was alive,” he stated.


Abu Talib was the head of the Quraysh in the She’b (Valley) of Abi Talib (during Meccan boycott of the Hashemites) but lived in the valleys for three years. He was with the Prophet in the valleys and mountains so that the Prophet would not feel lonely and changed the bed of the Prophet every night so that he would not be assassinated. At the time of his demise, Abu Talib said to his children, “I entrust the Prophet to you because he is trustworthy of Quraysh, the truthful Arab, who has all perfections. He has brought a religion that hearts believe in and has nothing to do but call for good”,” said the Chairman of the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom, regarding the role of Abu Talib in She’b of Abi Talib.


“In the cultural dimension, Abu Talib has written long poems in support of the Prophet; Because the language of cultural support at that time was poetry. He also composed a poem for the king of Abyssinia (Ethiopia) in support of the Prophet. He has written three thousand poems in support of the Prophet and Islam. In political support against the Mushrekin (polytheists) and the arrogant front, Abu Talib stood alone against them, and today our people stand against arrogance,” said the seminary professor, regarding the various aspects of Abu Talib’s support for the Prophet (p.b.u.h).


“The Resistance Front is standing all over the world and the real role model for them is Hazrat Abu Talib. Abu Talib’s support for the Prophet (p.b.u.h) stems from his heartfelt faith and belief and is not due to kinship. Supporting the Prophet (p.b.u.h) expresses within Abu Talib, that is, faith and belief in the heart. Supporting the Prophet (p.b.u.h) expresses the spirit of Abu Talib, that is, faith and belief in the heart. What good deed is better than supporting the Prophet to spread knowledge, along with love, self-sacrifice, and reputation,” he emphasized.


“Regarding the support of Abu Talib, Allameh Tabatabai said, “The effect of Abu Talib’s struggles in the ten years of Mecca is equal to all the struggles of the Muhajerin (people who migrated with the Prophet from Mecca to Medina) and the Ansar (people who helped the Prophet and Muhajerin in Medina)”,” concluded the Chairman of the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom in the end.
